9/23/2023 0 Comments Nxfilter unblock facebook![]() ![]() The advice I've heard time and again over the past few decades is that if they're old enough to seek something out, don't try to hide it from them, but discuss it openly and make sure they have the tools to build healthy habits to deal with it. It won't be their fault if they no longer feel comfortable coming to their parents about personal things after that, so please remember not to take it out on them. I can recommend some books if you're interested.Īt a certain point, they're going to become aware of all of the things you're trying to shield them from, and the moment they start having to go around you to sate their natural curiosity or circumvention becomes punishable, they're going to explore these things away from your guidance. This one will stretch your creativity over the next decade, but no internet filter is a replacement for fostering and maintaining trusting relationships with your children. I didn't know if anyone would have a creative and effective solution for me. I'd just like some your professional opinions and suggestions. Plus, I notice that PiHole uses MAC address instead of static IP addresses like NXFilter, which although also easily manipulated is something I can hide from my daughter for a few years. ![]() I can only assume that this would be as effective as the NXFilter. I've found that I could use PiHole in a similar manner as NXFilter by creating a user group for my kids devices and adding stricter porn filters to that group. Something I like about NXFilter is I could put a custom block page on it where my kids will know for sure that I'm watching. However, this could be easily circumvented in a couple years once the girl gets more tech savvy. I do have a standalone Windows 10 laptop I have which I use almost solely as a Plex Media Server, which I could install NXFilter on and direct only the two laptops to. I'd consider switching to NXFilter, but their limit of 20 devices makes me not want to use it as a whole home solution as PiHole currently filters for over 85 devices in my home. ![]() I started looking at NXfFilter, which looks promising but apparently would be difficult to run alongside NXFilter on the Pi. So I started looking at a solution to regulate my kids computer usage and to filter their surfing experience. I am liking PiHole and kind of want to stick with it. I currently have a Raspberry Pi setup with PiHole as my whole home DNS server. I'm mostly concerned about porn, as I already regulate their internet usage time using my router (Netgear R7000 flashed with FreshTomato) by setting up time of day restrictions. So just this Christmas, I bought my kids a couple of laptops (girl is 12 boy is 8) and I want to implement some control over what they will be viewing.
